We are fat because we eat too much. We are broke because we spend too much. It's the American dream on steriods…why do we call them McMansions? More is better. Media and horrific food industry practices run amok in Europe as well, however obesity isn't the rule of thumb. Why? Greed is good isn't their motto. For the most part, moderation is the basis of the European value system. Of course, there are the exceptions, but I am repping the majority here. Their portions are smaller in all that they do: food is served in smaller portions that are put into tiny fridges that require more trips to the nearby market (Costco would make folks scratch their heads…where do I put a 5 gallon jar of pickles?) in their tiny cars that take them back to their space efficient homes where they launder there limited wardrobes in washing machines that only handle three shirts & one pair jeans (repeated experience has taught me to pack less than a backpack for a month of travel). Again, in my journeys this is the majority I have come across from family to friends. There are a gluttonous, wealthy few who import our excesses & lifestyle and live the American dream a la Europa.
Can we teach moderation and re-program our youth for a healthy lifestyle? I'm the eternal optomist…West Babylon HS in NY is Health mag's "Healthiest School" in US. 5% decrease in obesity in last 4 yrs. http://bit.ly/VkQfw

Now off to improve my choc cupcake recipe for my never-2-b-obese 6&3 yr olds because I tightly manage their health and encourage them to workout & stretch with me daily. Despite being the chatty prof, I live by and believe in teaching by example. To that end, I only eat one cupcake/month.
