If you haven’t read these books, you don’t know.

Due to the volume of books that I read (not owning a TV), I have set up

an account with Amazon that will give you a discount on the recommended

reading list I publish for you.  You are encouraged to start this quest by

sinking your teeth into many of the recommended books on this page.

Click the amazon link to the side or any of the links for the books and you will be directed to the

Amazon page for that book.  Then with 1-Click you can get that book and be in the know.

Deep Economy

This book is one of the best primers for ideas and concepts about how

our economic model is unsustainable.  Bill McKibben dissects issues

that plague the current American way of life with a humble and eloquent

logic that enables every reader to be an active, informed member of the

environmental movement.

I recommend this book without any reservations.

Omnivore’s Dilemma

A must read for anyone that cares about what they eat and where it

comes from.  Food is the fundamental driving force of many of the

concepts that an activist needs to be informed about.

This book is a delight to read because you walk away with a complete

and thorough understanding of everything you didn’t know.

The Affluent Society

This is one of the books in my collection that was given to me by a friend.

Let me tell you, if you haven’t read this, you are in the dark.  This

book was written quite some time ago, yet the issues it discusses are so

thought out, that even now, we can take lessons from Galbraith

The Age of Missing Information

Another wonderful book by one of favorite authors.  Bill McKibben performs

a very interesting experiment on himself.  He spends an entire 24 hours in

the woods and compares this experience to 24 hours of TV (he, with the help

of friends records100 channels of TV for 24 hours... over 2400 of television,

and watches it all).

Here’s the long and the short of it:  If you watch TV, YOU MUST READ

THIS BOOK.

Animal Liberation

Peter Singer, Professor of Ethics wrote this book many decades ago

and now it is the reference for animal rights and ethics in reference to

eating meat.  His argument is solid, and irrefutable.

Dark Ages America

A discussion on the final phase of our economic empire.

Thought provoking insight.

Fast Food Nation

You know our food sucks.  You know people eat junk.

I’ve eaten it, you’ve eaten it, now learn what ‘s in it.

Walden

The environmentalist “Bible” and reference text.  A book on philosophy,

naturalism, sustainability, ethics, and just plain being a good American.

The New Industrial Nation

Why do you want a T-Shirt from the Gap?  Or why do you wait in line

to get the latest Wii?

1984

His timing was off... but we’re headed there if GE has anything

to say about it.

The Yaqui Way of Knowledge

A book about a mans journey into the ancient culture

of knowledge held by the elders... something we all had access

to at one point in history.
