Maybe it’s not that people think they are invisible, but a more accurate view point would be that we are all individually insignificant globally speaking and somewhat not seen aside from friends, family and local interactions. To most people, time passes and being seen or impacting our world is not important to them. They do not know why they are here but just go with the flow of life and the cards that have been dealt to them, being good citizens and living their lives according to media’s standards. Then there are others who have acknowledged that life is ephemeral and realize that the most efficient way to make a change or difference individually is to be seen because then your voice can be heard. It is the nature of the wise man species. Choices we make collectively are also what make us significant and able to influence society. The L.A. epidemic is mostly narcissism except for a few. Our world is not that black and white. There are still speckles of grey.
“what needs to happen to get people to start changing their habits. For example, what can be done to get people to stop grabbing for a plastic water bottle, and instead have a connection to the harm that bottle does to our health and environment.”
You need to be seen so that you can educate people and motivate them to make different choices. Inspire them to come out of their comfort zones using the medium that our society is already accustomed to. That is the only way people will listen.
