I think something that you briefly mentioned is extremely important to elaborate on... television has no revenue but the ad space they sell. In fact, I have felt for a while now of an alternative view of television. So many refer to the ads being filler for the shows, but in reality I think the shows are the filler for the ads. I am sure years ago, marketing geniuses realized how a great medium for ad space the television truly was... here is this thing that everyone voluntarily has in their home. Unlike, a magazine or newspaper that is dependent on someone buying it, you can almost bet that each and every person has a television or two and are watching it daily. However, the problem is no one would be willing to watch ads all day, every day. So what is the remedy? It is interesting that no one connects the dots to understand that a new form of performance, or theatre, was created to fit a television. Sitcoms never existed before the 1950's. And why does a sitcom need to exist? To create a place where ads can be seen by the millions. A sitcom was created for advertising.

I only bring this up because people think they can get away from marketing and ads... but when they dupe us by creating new forms of media for their own gain... how can you ever really get away?
